February 14, 2005
CANNES, France -- Portal Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRSFE - News), the premier provider of billing and Revenue Management solutions for global communications and media markets, today announced that Mobily (formerly known as Etihad Etisalat), the second largest GSM provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has selected Portal's convergent Revenue Management solution to support its aggressive growth plans and objectives in the newly liberalized Saudi market.
Mobily selected Portal's Revenue Management solution based on its superior ability to support the rapid deployment of new services and speed time to market. Working with Saudi Business Machines, an IBM affiliate, Portal is delivering a converged platform to support wireless and data services, providing Mobily with the ability to tailor its programs to meet evolving customer demands. And, because of Portal's readily configurable architecture, the first phase of this solution is being implemented in less than 100 days--enabling Mobily to accelerate the launch of new services to meet the ever changing needs of the mobile market.
Etisalat UAE (a major shareholder of Mobily) plays a major role in operating all business and technical activities of Mobily. Etisalat UAE was one of the first to introduce mobile telephones to the Middle East in 1982 and launched its GSM Service in September 1994. The company's subscriber base has grown from 130,000 in 1996 to well over three million customers today. Etisalat UAE's GSM-based service incorporates advanced digital communication technology with full roaming facilities in countries where a reciprocal agreement exists.
"In the coming decade, our customers will have an increasing variety of 3G services to choose from, going beyond just data to include video and a host of value-added services," said Khalid Al-Kaf, managing director of Mobily. "Portal's Revenue Management solution gives us the ability to provide flexible service and pricing options to our customers, which will increase both loyalty and profitability."
