PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM - News), the world's leading provider of unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced support for IPv6 on Polycom video communications systems and network infrastructure products. Polycom has long been committed to delivering high-quality, standards-based conferencing and collaboration solutions to meet emerging standards. Polycom will support IPv.6 natively and end-to-end including video endpoints, multipoint control unit (MCUs), management products, and an IPv4 to IPv6 Application Layer Gateway (ALG) to help customers cost-effectively migrate to IPv6 while effectively leveraging existing investments in Polycom VSX video conference systems and MGC video bridges. IPv6 support and the ALG are scheduled for availability in the mid-2007 timeframe.

Polycom's IPv6 ALG solution will provide seamless migration and support between existing IPv4 and IPv6 networks and components, including Polycom's industry leading MGC and VSX product lines. The IPv4 -IPv6 ALG will convert the media and control messages between the two standards, enabling IPv6 and IPv4 conferencing components to communicate directly with one another. This solution will be applicable for H.323 and SIP and can work in a mixed IPv4, IPv6 environment. This solution will not require additional hardware upgrades to the Polycom MGC, VSX products or legacy endpoints and will work with IPv4 or IPv6 endpoints and MCUs. Polycom will also offer a software upgrade to its industry leading line of VSX products to provide native IPv6 support in 2007.

"The growth of IP-based communications and the broadening adoption of video conferencing into applications such as personal desktop video is creating the need to support the next generation Internet infrastructure," said Joe Sigrist, senior vice president and general manager of network systems at Polycom. "Polycom's native IPv6 support and ALG solution will enable a natural transition to the next generation network, providing customers with an effective way to migrate to IPv6 without abandoning their investment in IPv4 network components or video conferencing systems."
