Paul Comm. Picks TVS
Communications leaps from analog to all-digital
February 7, 2008
SAN CARLOS, Calif. -- Transparent Video Systems, which provides small to medium-sized cable systems an affordable, end-to-end digital cable solution that enables a competitive edge against satellite competition, announced today that Paul Communications, a Kahnawake, Quebec, Native American-based cable operator, has upgraded its analog cable television services to a 100% digital cable television offering through the Transparent Video Systems (TVS) turnkey digital cable television solution, choosing the TVS solution over alternative options, including IPTV.
The TVS system includes a complete, EAS-compatible headend, conditional access system with separable security cards, multiple set-top choices and a subscriber management system. Set-top boxes are available for under $100 each. The subscriber management system integrates with a cable operator’s billing system and allows provisioning of voice, video and data from one screen, translating into operational savings from reduced truck-rolls and the ability to remotely activate or deactivate subscribers’ service.
“Our challenge is to provide state-of-the-art services, with a relatively small subscriber base of 4,000 subscribers,” said Alan Paul, president of Paul Communications. “We looked at a number of options, including an IPTV over coaxial cable approach. With the notable exception of Transparent Video Systems, none of the alternatives could deliver the product options we needed in the required timeframe, with the needed reliability and within our budget.
“The switch from analog to digital is not a trivial thing,” he said. “There are so many things to get right. TVS was with us every step of the way—from pre-racking, configuration and system testing at the TVS plant—to ensure a smooth transition from analog to digital. We are excited about the power that TVS’s digital solution provides us both in terms of being able to create programming packages that fit our customer needs, as well as streamline our operational costs and provide better customer service.”
