Openwave makes a slew of announcements at 3GSM in Cannes

CANNES, France -- Openwave Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: OPWV), the leading independent provider of open software products and services for the mobile communications industry today announced the sixth generation of the Openwave® Mobile Access Gateway (MAG 6). MAG 6 is designed as an integrated gateway for both WAP 1 and WAP 2 devices and comes with a number of key new features, such as the ability to distribute the gateway geographically. It provides unparalleled interoperability with handsets, services and applications and offers operators a low-risk and low-cost upgrade path. Openwave MAG is currently deployed at over 85 customers worldwide, with more than 10 customers already running MAG 6 trials. Cingular Wireless will be one of the first operators to deploy Mobile Access Gateway 6. "In the past, WAP has been thought of as a service rather than a service enabler. With V7, Openwave upgrades and expands its core browser technologies to offer handset manufacturers and operators a new kind of phone power. The new package of products includes an XHTML browser, a messaging client and other components to build highly differentiated handsets and services for the widest range of color phones. "To date, the Openwave Mobile Browser can be found in more than 350 million handsets of 43 manufacturers.
