NTT selects Excel's media gateway for VOIP long-distance services
May 20, 2005
HYANNIS, Mass. -- Excel Switching Corp. (www.ExcelSwitching.com), a leading provider of carrier-class, open services platforms, media gateways, and media servers for communications networks, announced today that Tokyo-based NTT Communications, assisted by NEC systems integration professionals, has deployed the Excel CSP 2090 integrated media gateway for the NTT VoIP Clearinghouse service, adding SS7 support to its growing international VoIP wholesale service.
SS7 is a key factor in expanding the NTT Communications Clearinghouse Network, and by choosing the Excel CSP 2090 platform, NTT can include SS7 signaling in this VoIP network based on H.323. The Excel CSP 2090, a single-box solution, provides NTT with flexibility for expanding capacity and services, while reducing capital and operational costs. The Excel solution also includes embedded advanced media processing capabilities including voice recording, file playback, and conferencing.
NTT has engaged NEC’s system integration team to identify the best possible solutions for the Clearinghouse network. The NEC team specializes in the integration and design of tier-one telecommunications systems. Tasked with specifying, engineering, and supporting the VoIP gateway interface, the NEC team selected Excel and its application development partner, Emergent Network Solutions, to deliver the call management, routing, and configuration functions for the new VoIP gateway.
NEC selected the award-winning Excel CSP 2090 due to its support of SIP and comprehensive media services in the same platform. This combination provides a future-proof gateway solution that also supports new high-margin services. The Excel CSP 2090 is an integrated programmable platform that enables providers to rapidly and cost-effectively deploy IP- and TDM-based service offerings across fixed and mobile networks. A member of Excel’s AnyGen product family, the Excel CSP 2090 offers native support for SIP and H.323 networks, plus simultaneous support for SS7, PRI, and CAS-based networks. The Excel CSP 2090, with its advanced media processing capabilities, along with exceptional scalability, reliability, and redundancy, provides carriers with greater flexibility and reduced time to market for new protocols and services, as well as an easy migration path to media server and SIP functionality without major “forklift” upgrades.
The Emergent Network Telecommunications Infrastructure Control Environment (ENTICE) application server provides an open-solutions call control platform. ENTICE controls the Excel CSP 2090 gateway, enabling NTT Communications Clearinghouse to rapidly add new high margin services into the network, and to easily deploy new services in response to changing customer needs.
“We are pleased that NTT Communications Clearinghouse has successfully implemented SS7 in its network via deployment of the Excel CSP 2090 integrated media gateway and Emergent’s ENTICE application server,” said Hironobu Sakata, chief manager, Broadband Solutions Business Unit/Carrier Solutions Operations Unit, NTT Communications Sales Division. “Teaming with Excel and Emergent has enabled us to quickly deliver a cost-effective solution that meets the needs of NTT Communications Clearinghouse.”
