Nortel makes its multimedia services platform available to enterprises in the EMEA region, providing tools for collaboration

HANOVER, Germany -- NortelNetworks(NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT) announced today at CeBIT 2004 that its next generationmultimedia services platform for enterprises is now available in Europe,the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Nortel Networks Multimedia Communication Server (MCS) 5100Release 2 is designed to help enterprises drive greater productivity byproviding tools for collaboration, mobility and personalized applicationdevelopment. MCS 5100 uses industry-standard protocols like SIP (SessionInitiation Protocol) and H.323 to give individuals a full suite ofservices and the freedom to use them virtually 'anytime, anywhere.' MCS5100 can be deployed with Nortel Networks telephony systems, or withtelephony systems from other vendors.

Trials are already underway in Europe, including one atUniversity Hospitals of Geneva (HUG) in Switzerland, installed bySwisscom Systems. This healthcare provider is seeking to maximiseproductivity and collaboration among specialists at various facilities.

The HUG trial features Nortel Networks MCS 5100 working inconjunction with an existing Nortel Networks Succession 1000 IP(Internet Protocol) telephony infrastructure. One of the keyapplications being tested is a weekly video session between doctors andconsultants at two locations. HUG hopes to gain an understanding of thevideo resolution and quality available for sharing medical images aspart of a real-time collaboration over distance.
