HELSINKI -- The Ministry of Interior of the State of Kuwait has signed a contract for the Nokia TETRA system with Nokia, Nokia's value added reseller in the area Atlas Telecommunications, and the Kuwaiti company Global Projects. The Nokia TETRA system will bring improved security for the radio communications of the Kuwaiti police and public safety authorities.

Under the terms of the deal, Global Projects will be the main local contractor, and Nokia, along with Atlas, will provide its complete TETRA solution for the implementation nationwide. The contract also covers a significant number of Nokia handportable and mobile radio terminals.

Equipment deliveries will begin early in the second half of 2004. The first phase of the system is planned to be in operational use by the end of the year, and the whole network by mid-2005.

"We are honoured that the State of Kuwait have put their trust in Nokia and chosen us as their partner for this crucial project," says Hans Holmberg, Vice President, TETRA Sales and Marketing, Nokia.

"This contract, in addition to the ones we have won in Bahrain and Dubai, further increases our market leadership in this region," he adds.
