Nokia TETRAs Bordeaux
Bordeaux goes TETRA with Nokia and Amec Spie, replacing its analog professional mobile network

HELSINKI -- Nokia is to provide its digital TETRA professional mobile radio systemto Amec Spie Communications for the Communauté Urbaine de Bordeaux - theBordeaux metropolitan area authority - in France. The network, to beimplemented by Amec Spie, will serve the administrators in the city ofBordeaux and its suburbs, and it is planned to be in operation by theend of 2003.
The Nokia TETRA System will eventually serve 10,000 users, and it willreplace the analog professional mobile network currently used by theBordeaux metropolitan area. The system will greatly enhance thecooperation between the metropolitan authorities and their partners,giving city administrators better opportunities to react to exceptionalevents, such as floods or storms.
The Bordeaux metropolitan area authority selected Amec SpieCommunications as the prime contractor to integrate the Nokia TETRASystem with PABX systems and to create a fully integrated communicationssystem for public administration. Nokia will provide its TETRAsolution, including TETRA switching equipment, base stations, and adispatcher station. Nokia will be the sole TETRA supplier and willsupport Amec Spie Communications in the implementation phase, as well asprovide care services.
The Bordeaux metropolitan area authority is the fourth largest inFrance, and it administrates 660,000 people in 27 nearby cities in thesouthwest of the country.
