Nokia introduces a version of its Developer's Suite for J2ME for Linux developers

HELSINKI -- Nokia (NYSE:NOK), the global leader in mobility, today introduced the Nokia Developer's Suite for J2ME, Version 1.1 for Linux, expanding the universe of creative talent targeting mobile application development. The Nokia Developer's Suite for J2ME, Version 1.1 for Linux provides developers with tools to create, test and deploy downloadable applications that are designed for the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME), a version of Java technology specifically designed for small consumer electronics products. Nokia has announced that it is supporting Java technology in a wide selection of its current and future mobile terminals. The Nokia Developer's Suite for J2ME 1.1 supports development of Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) applications. The suite enables efficient MIDP development in a standalone environment and can be integrated with existing IDEs from industry leaders Borland and Sun. It provides an automated code generation tool, archive builders, and is compatible with all Nokia MIDP SDKs. "The significance of this release should not be underestimated," commented Alan Williamson, Editor-in-Chief, Java Developer's Journal. "This is truly the year for Java technology on the move.' Developers are starting to look at their mobiles not as phones but as mobile computing centers -- with power to be harnessed.
