NetEngine 8000 Helps Open Up the 400GE Intelligent IP Era

At the 2020 Better World Summit, Kevin Hu, President of Huawei's Data Communication Product Line, said that Huawei NetEngine 8000 series routers, with the industry's most powerful 400GE, first SLA-committed solution, and first AI-powered intelligent O&M, could help carriers achieve business success in the 5G and cloud era by enabling them to build an intelligent IP network featuring super capacity, intelligent experience, and autonomous driving.

The 5G and cloud era is coming sooner than expected. According to GSMA, 170 global carriers will have implemented 5G commercial use in 2020, and 5G 2B will open up an ICT market space of US$620 billion by 2026. Enterprise cloudification is becoming widely applied, with more than 85% of global enterprise applications expected to be deployed on the cloud by 2025. 5G and cloud not only bring huge business opportunities, but also pose higher requirements on IP networks: Firstly, compared with video and other services in the 4G era, new services such as Cloud VR/AR require a 10-fold increase in bandwidth. Secondly, an IP network must provide SLA assurance, for example, minimum latency for services such as 5G 2B. Lastly, an IP network must support fast fault locating and recovery to meet 5G 2B and enterprise cloudification's higher network reliability requirements.

NetEngine 8000 Helps Open Up the 400GE Intelligent IP Era and Fuels Carriers' Business Success in the 5G and Cloud Era
"To address the challenges brought by the 5G and cloud era, we use NetEngine 8000 series routers in Huawei's intelligent IP solution, aiming to help global customers build super capacity, intelligent experience, and autonomous driving IP networks," said Kevin Hu. He continued: "The NetEngine 8000 has the industry-leading 400GE capability and can help carriers build ultra-broadband infrastructure networks. It supports hard slicing so as to implement bandwidth assurance for mission critical services, and uses SRv6 (one year ahead of the industry) to provide intelligent connectivity, achieving fast provisioning of services such as enterprise cloudification, as well as committed latency for key services. Based on AI technology and the industry's first platform that integrates management, control, and analysis — iMaster NCE, the NetEngine 8000 provides full-lifecycle intelligent O&M, including fast fault locating."

Super Capacity: 400GE Builds an Ultra-Broadband Infrastructure Network, While Hard Slicing Implements Flexible Bandwidth Allocation
Compared with 100GE, 400GE saves 75% of optical fibers, eliminates load imbalance caused by bundling of multiple links, and improves network utilization by 20%. The NetEngine 8000 supports 36 x 400GE, the highest port density, 1.5 times the industry average. Huawei is the only vendor to provide 400GE optical modules that support a full distance of 0.1 km, 2 km, 10 km, 40 km, and 80 km. For example, Huawei uses the exclusive PD optical detection material in 40 km optical modules to improve the optical detection sensitivity by 2 dB and increase the transmission distance from 30 km (industry average) to 40 km.

In addition, to address bandwidth sharing and preemption among all services on a traditional IP network, Huawei first proposed the hard slicing technology to implement hard isolation of different service traffic and provide 100% bandwidth assurance for mission critical services. For example, in 2019, Huawei used hard slicing to help China Mobile carry out the world's first all-scenario 5G smart healthcare, providing high-quality assurance for medical services, such as remote consultation and B-mode ultrasound. Huawei's network slicing precision is five times the industry average, supporting more flexible bandwidth scheduling.

Intelligent Experience: SRv6-Based Application-Oriented Intelligent Traffic Steering and Committed Latency
On traditional networks, services are provisioned through static configuration, making it difficult to configure network resources in real time based on service intents. Leveraging the industry-leading SRv6 technology, Huawei's intelligent IP network solution can intelligently select the optimal path and adjust it in real time based on service intent and network congestion status to continuously provide the optimal connectivity experience.

In addition, based on the SRv6 technology, the intelligent IP network can solve the problem of slow service provisioning on traditional networks and implement minute-level service provisioning. Huawei is committed to promoting the development of the SRv6 industry and has participated in the formulation of more than 59% of SRv6 standards. To date, SRv6 has been commercially deployed by more than 20 carriers worldwide.

Autonomous Driving: AI-Powered Full-Lifecycle Intelligent O&M, Moving Towards Autonomous Driving Networks
With iMaster NCE — the industry's first intelligent management platform that features integrated management, control, and analysis — the intelligent IP network solution not only provides customers with full-lifecycle intelligent O&M covering network planning, construction, maintenance, and optimization, but also helps them transform their networks towards autonomous driving IP networks. Take fault locating as an example. Huawei NetEngine 8000 is the first in the industry to use AI technology to quickly identify network faults or potential risks and implement proactive O&M. First of all, the exclusive embedded AI collection technology allows more than 80,000 network KPIs to be collected. The collection capability is 10 times the industry average. Second, the industry's first AI-based automatic fault learning algorithm improves the learning efficiency by 100 times compared with the traditional manual labeling mode. Finally, the prediction result is compared with the real-time collection result to continuously improve the accuracy. In this way, more than 90% of silent faults on the network can be predicted.

As a world-leading provider of intelligent IP network solutions, Huawei has invested heavily in R&D for more than two decades. Huawei's router products and solutions have been deployed in more than 140 countries and regions, ranking top in the global carrier market share for two consecutive years. In the 5G and cloud era, intelligent IP networks featuring super capacity, intelligent experience, and autonomous driving have become an inevitable trend for the development of data communication networks over the next 10 years. Huawei will continue to cooperate with customers to build intelligent IP networks and lead the intelligent IP era.
