Nakina Systems launches next-generation OSS software that leverages existing Layer 1 network assets; ex-Nortel optical prez joins board
September 4, 2003
OTTAWA -- Nakina Systems Inc., an Ottawa based independent software developer, today unveiled a suite of intelligent network applications that address service providers' needs for multi-vendor layer one network discovery and automation of operational tasks. The Nakina™ suite supports both legacy and next generation equipment utilizing interfaces such as TL-1 and TMF-814 over OSI and TCP protocols. By empowering service providers with discovered network data, unused network resources can be leveraged and back-office operational tasks expedited to reduce operating expenses and accelerate service delivery and revenue recognition,
Nakina's initial offering is the highly intelligent Network Discovery and Tracking engine, which searches out and identifies network elements, topologies, resources and inventory. Utilizing this knowledge base provides the foundation that enables service providers to benefit from Nakina's other intelligent "plug and play" applications. These applications are:
Network Audit & Software Delivery
Backup & Restore
Data Mining
Security Management
Service Provisioning
Bandwidth Enabler
With this comprehensive set of open, flexible applications, service providers can reduce the cost of core operational tasks by up to 95% and increase revenue by unlocking additional network capacity without additional capital expenditures.
"Service providers are working to improve their asset management systems, enabling them to better utilize their networks and drive down operations expense with improved efficiency in network operations," said Larry Goldman a partner at OSS Observer. "This is especially true in the layer one optical networks where legacy equipment and systems have previously impeded productivity improvements. Nakina Systems' applications focus on this area that can make a big impact on service provider profitability."
In other news today, Nakina has appointed Mike Unger, former Nortel Optical President to its board of directors. A veteran of the telecommunications industry, Mr. Unger spent 38 years with Nortel, his last ten leading Nortel's Optical Networks business unit to a global leadership position in the optical networking market.
Speaking about the appointment, Dave Vicary, President and CEO of Nakina Systems described Mr. Unger as a strategic addition to their board of directors. "We are pleased that Mike Unger has joined our Board of Directors. Nakina will significantly benefit from Mike's knowledge and experience in the global optical networking industry. We look forward to having Mike's strategic guidance as Nakina delivers much needed solutions to telecom network operators."
Nakina Systems was founded in late 2001 and is a privately held corporation headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Nakina's management team has over 100 years of combined experience in the telecom networking and related software industry, bringing a solid understanding of back-office operations and multi-vendor networks. Nakina Systems is partnering with top-tier service providers, system integrators, and networking vendors throughout North America to ensure multi-vendor inter-working and support in the Nakina suite of applications.
"Customer endorsement of Nakina Systems' value propositions has been excellent," says Vicary. "Our customer and partner work has allowed us to refine our product portfolio to better meet the current and future needs of service providers."
Nakina will be demonstrating Intelligent Network Discovery and Tracking and other applications at the National Fiber Optics Engineering Conference (NFOEC), September 7-11th, 2003 in Orlando, FL. - Booth 1401.
