CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Nasdaq: MRVC), a leading provider of products and services for out-of-band networking, WDM and optical transport, Metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE Optical Ethernet solutions and other service aware networking products, today debuted a new solution for Metro Ethernet Carriers enabling flexible, yet simple, deployment of optical Ethernet services using an integrated end-to-end Ethernet access system based on the OptiSwitch 9000 Metro Ethernet switch as Ethernet Aggregation with MPLS and VPLS capabilities and the FiberDriver 802.3AH EFM Optical Ethernet as Metro Ethernet Demarcation. The innovative solutions enable Metro Ethernet Carriers to use one integrated Optical Ethernet system for truly universal broadband access, employing a single Metro Ethernet technology end-to-end, and enabling unlimited broadband applications and services for residential and business users. The MRV new Optical Ethernet Access solution has simplified the provision of new EPL, EVPL, and E-LAN Metro Ethernet services benefits of centrally provisioned systems, real-time optical performance monitoring and fiber optimization using Bi-Directional Single Fiber (BX), CWDM and DWDM technologies with Optical Ethernet integration.

The OS9000 Metro Ethernet Switch series, launched last year as the industry's first carrier-class Metro Ethernet platform to aggregate optical Ethernet connectivity, provisions enhanced MPLS and VPLS Metro Ethernet services and aggregate WDM optical transport, now additionally supports aggregation of Optical Ethernet EFM standard 802.3AH devices and auto-discovery of all 802.3AH Optical Ethernet Demarcation devices.

The new flexible Optical Ethernet Access solutions enable the OS9000 Metro Ethernet Switch to aggregate Optical Ethernet Demarcation devices using Gigabit or Fast Ethernet subscriber's connectivity per system. As a result of the flexible connectivity of the OS9000 Metro Ethernet switch, these signals can be passed on to groomed Multi-Gigabit, 10GE, and WDM feeds and act as a second-mile optical Ethernet transport vehicle to provider edge metro Ethernet platforms, offering a flexible, scalable solution.

"The OptiSwitch 9000 Metro Ethernet switch has already begun to be adopted for our customers' high-end Optical Ethernet business services because it allows them to cost-effectively deploy a variety of bandwidths to their customers and gives them an infrastructure that can support the roll out of next-generation services like VoIP and video," said Chen Genossar, Senior Vice President for MRV Communications. Mr. Genossar continues, "Xspedius Communications is the first joint customer win under a reseller agreement between MRV and Lucent for OptiSwitch demarcation solutions."
