Motorola teams with Turin Networks to offer new metropolitan optical transport and service delivery solutions

NEW ORLEANS -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) Broadband Communications Sector has announced a strategic relationship with Turin Networks to provide a new metro optical transport and service delivery solution for broadband network operators.Under the terms of the agreement, Motorola will market Turin's Traverse™ Multiservice Transport Platform as the Motorola Multiservice Broadband Transport 5000 (MBT-5000) to Motorola's broadband network operator customers. The MBT-5000 platform is a data-optimized, multiservice optical transport solution that offers service flexibility and high port density, and provides carrier class reliability and quality of service. In addition, Motorola and Turin plan to collaborate on future marketing and development activities.Motorola is showcasing the MBT-5000 at National Cable and Telecommunications Association's (NCTA) Cable 2002(May 5-8, Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Booth #1623).The MBT-5000 platform leverages a standards-based, unified architecture that integrates next-generation SONET/SDH technology with powerful Ethernet switching and DWDM capabilities. With this platform, broadband operators can deliver flexible Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet services - as well as traditional voice and private line services - efficiently over the same metro area network infrastructure."The Motorola/Turin metro optical transport solution is an ideal technology offering for our customer base of broadband network operators," said Charles Dougherty, vice president and general manager of Motorola's transmission network systems business.
