Metalink's VDSL product shipments to South Korea exceed 200,000 ports
November 14, 2003
YAKUM, Israel -- Metalink Ltd. (Nasdaq: MTLK), a global provider and developer of high performance wireline and wireless broadband communication silicon solutions, today announced that shipments of the company's standard compliant QAM VDSL products to South Korea have exceeded the 200,000-port milestone. The selection of Metalink's customers in Korea by a major operator to supply VDSL systems in high volume is the main driver of the increase in demand for Metalink's VDSL products in that market.
"South Korea has the highest broadband penetration in the world (22.9 per 100 population at the end of June 2003). South Korea is expected to have around 13.5 million broadband users by end-2005. At the end of June 2003, South Korea ranked third in the world by the total number of DSL lines and first in the world in terms of DSL penetration, with 14.27 DSL lines per 100 population," according to a Point Topic DSL analysis report.
"The decision by Korean operators to deploy Metalink's QAM VDSL technology is a resounding endorsement of our products which provide the unmatched combination of high performance, density, and low power, and are competitively priced compared to existing VDSL and ADSL solutions," said Daniel Manor, Vice President of Marketing at Metalink. "We are encouraged by the South Korean endeavor to replace ADSL with 50 Mbps VDSL as their primary broadband platform. We have indications that this trend in Korea will also be extended to other high growth broadband markets in Asia-Pacific, and worldwide."
