Meriton launches first OADX products and makes management appointments, as it expands into Europe with a new HQ in Bristol

OTTAWA -- Meriton Networks Inc. (www.meriton.com) today announced the launch of its first products: the 7200 OADX (Optical Add/Drop Switch), which combines wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and cross-connect functionality in one device, and the 8600 NMS (Network Management System), a comprehensive network and element management system. The products are poised to enter trials, including a tier- one telecommunications carrier, within the next sixty days. As well the Company announced changes to its management team. Michael Gassewitz, chief operating officer, has been promoted to president. Mr. Gassewitz's strong industry insights, coupled with his extensive operational experience, will ensure that Meriton Networks delivers early market penetration and revenue generation for the company's wavelength networking products. Weston Biggs has been elevated to chairman of the board and will continue to play a leadership role in the vision setting and governance of Meriton Networks. Meriton Networks will be demonstrating the 7200 OADX and 8600 NMS at the Supercomm conference and exhibition, June 4-6, 2002 in Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center (Booth 23876, Hall B-4). In addition, Mr. Gassewitz is speaking at the Telecom Investor Forum at Supercomm, Monday June 3 at 2:30 p.m. In a separate release: Meriton Networks Inc. (www.meriton.com), developers of the OADX (Optical Add/Drop Switch) for integrated wavelength switching and transport services in the metro core, today announced that it has expanded into Europe, establishing its European headquarters in Bristol, UK. Additionally the Company announced that it has landed well-respected telecom executives Patrick Roberts and Gerard Owens to lead the expansion. Mr. Roberts is a member of Meriton Network's advisory board and is introducing Meriton to telecommunication carriers throughout Europe. During his 25-year career in telecommunications, Mr. Roberts has held senior executive roles with Mitel Telecom and then Newbridge Networks, where he most recently held the position of vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa. With the acquisition of Newbridge by Alcatel, Mr. Roberts was appointed as a member of the Executive Council for the Carrier Internetworking Division of Alcatel. Mr. Owens is named as the director of European sales, and reports directly to Michael Gassewitz, president of Meriton Networks. Most recently, Mr. Owens was the sales director and global key accounts manager for Alcatel. Over the past 19 years, Mr. Owens has held senior sales positions with Alcatel, Newbridge Networks, GPT Ireland and Cable & Wireless, and has worked closely with Europe's most progressive telecommunications carriers.
