SAN FRANCISCO -- LongBoard, Inc., a leading provider of open mobile convergence software, today announced its Open Mobile Cable (OMC) OnePhone application for MSOs. OMC OnePhone is a SIP-based server-to-handset software solution that enhances cable operators' existing fixed voice, data, and video offerings with new high-value mobile voice services that allows them to keep mobile subscribers on their network and in their control. LongBoard's OMC solution enables cable operators, for the first time, to offer managed consumer and business class mobile voice services spanning home or enterprise wireless local area networks (WLANs) and public cellular networks -- from their Hybrid-Fiber Coax (HFC) network infrastructure.

MSOs in today's market face some challenges. Subscriber and revenue growth for basic cable services is flat. Cable operators have added voice services as part of their triple play offerings, but increasing competition for MSO bundles from satellite, DSL, and wireless providers is forcing cable operators to look for additional ways to differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive communications market. By adding mobility to their current PacketCable(TM) voice services, MSOs can deliver a quadruple play of fixed voice, video, data, and now mobile voice services, increasing their average revenue per customer by as much as 35 percent. In addition, operators can reduce customer churn and subscriber acquisition costs, and better defend against the erosion of voice minutes to wireless providers.

"The addition of mobility to existing voice services changes the competitive playing field to favor cable operators," said Bill Leslie, founder and CTO of LongBoard. "OMC OnePhone enables cable operators to deliver high-value, high-demand mobility services and at the same time compete against bundled offerings from incumbent wireline and wireless providers. With OnePhone, cable operators can now establish their own unique brand of mobile voice services in order to satisfy and retain subscribers and improve their business model."
