WILMINGTON, Mass. -- kSARIA Corp., an automation pioneer in fiber-optic assembly, has selected an optics design technologist who directed many of the next-generation optical projects at Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies as kSARIA's chief technology officer. William Emkey brings to kSARIA's CTO post an in-depth knowledge about the design and manufacture of optical components and modules, an understanding developed by managing optical research teams for Bell Labs and Lucent for nearly 20 years. He was named a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff for his work on passive and active electro-optic components. He personally holds seven U.S. patents for cutting edge optical communications technologies; several other patent applications are still pending. In addition, he has written extensively in the field. Emkey's arrival comes at a pivotal time for kSARIA, which recently previewed its second standardized automated fiber-optic processing machine: the Presta(TM) fusion splicing system. Two more automated processing systems are planned. "Bill's depth of understanding of optical components and modules will be an enormous asset to us as we continue to expand our automation systems in response to customer feedback," said Sebastian J. Sicari, kSARIA's president and chief executive officer. "He will help us tremendously going forward, in both the technical and management areas."kSaria Corp.
