SAN DIEGO and SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Kodiak Networks, a leading provider of advanced wireless systems, and Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading global manufacturer of CDMA handsets, announced an alliance to jointly market Kyocera handsets supporting the Kodiak Real-time Exchange(TM) (RTX) platform worldwide. Together, Kyocera and Kodiak provide a fully-integrated premium solution to CDMA operators interested in adding advanced voice services, including push-to-talk (PTT), to their existing networks.

PTT and other advanced voice services comprise one of the fastest growing wireless technology segments globally. Handset manufacturers like Kyocera Wireless Corp. have begun integrating instant voice technology into new models serving all pricing tiers, expanding the reach of PTT technology from enterprise customers to a broader consumer audience.

The companies have already launched two Kyocera models utilizing the Kodiak platform. In January 2004, U.S. operator ALLTEL introduced the Kyocera 3250 with the launch of its Touch2Talk(TM) service and in June, the SE44 tri-mode Slider PTT was added to the ALLTEL lineup. In addition, Wisconsin-based operator Cellcom recently added both models to its Chirp(R) PTT service offering. The companies confirmed that new Kyocera handsets supporting the Kodiak handset software will be introduced in the coming months. The companies are working with a number of other wireless carriers around the world.

"We are very pleased to partner with Kyocera on these Kodiak-enabled handsets," said Bruce Lawler, Kodiak Networks vice president, business development. "Kyocera's reputation for innovative design and feature-rich wireless phones is well deserved. They understand the tremendous market opportunity for purpose-built handsets with high-performance push-to-talk and advanced voice services capabilities."

"We've experienced great success with the two Kodiak-enabled handsets we've launched to date and look forward bringing new models to market in the coming months," said Don McGuire, VP of Global Marketing and North American Sales for Kyocera Wireless Corp. "By integrating Kodiak's high-performance PTT client into our intuitive, easy-to-use handsets, we're enabling a much broader audience to instantly connect with family, friends and business associates."
