MILPITAS, Calif. -- Kineto Wireless, the key innovator and leading supplier of UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) technology, today announced Rick Gilbert has joined the company as president and CEO. Kineto's board of directors unanimously selected Mr. Gilbert to lead the company as it grows to meet operator demand for UMA technology, the new 3GPP global standard for cellular/Wi-Fi convergence.
"Rick brings key experience in leading innovative companies in high-growth, emerging markets," said Kurt Hellstrom, a Kineto Wireless board-member and former president and CEO of Ericsson. "With the recent adoption of UMA technology by leading operators and equipment vendors such as Nokia, Motorola and Alcatel, we felt it was imperative to have someone of Rick's caliber leading the company."
Prior to accepting the position at Kineto, Mr. Gilbert was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Copper Mountain, a leading provider of broadband access products to ILECs, CLECs, IOCs, IXCs, PTTs, and other facilities-based network providers worldwide. Under Mr. Gilbert's leadership, Copper Mountain achieved nearly $500 million in aggregate sales and was one of the most successful initial public offerings of 1999. Prior to Copper Mountain, Mr. Gilbert was the President of Kentrox, one of the fastest growing and most profitable divisions of ADC Telecommunications.
"I'm extremely pleased to be joining the company and given the opportunity to build upon the great accomplishments Kineto has made to date," said Rick Gilbert, President and CEO of Kineto Wireless. "With best-of-breed technology and a 'who's who' list of partners and customers, I believe Kineto has the right ingredients for success as operators begin widespread deployment of cellular/Wi-Fi convergence services."
