CALABASAS, Calif. -- Ixia (Nasdaq:XXIA - News), a leading, global provider of IP network testing solutions, announced today significant enhancements to its IxAccess broadband test suite. These enhancements deliver the industry's highest level of scalability and realistic application traffic environment for executing performance, stress and negative tests on broadband access aggregation devices.

The new enhancements enable network equipment manufacturers and service providers to design and maintain large scale, low cost, easy-to-use and automated test beds in a small physical space, eliminating the need to maintain large numbers of end-user broadband devices such as DSL modems to simulate real-world environments.

"Copper Mountain's VantEdge broadband remote access servers are designed for easy provisioning of voice, video and IP services in large carrier networks, so it's essential that we have a test solution that can give our developers an accurate picture of how applications will respond when the system is scaled to real-world proportions," said Chris Shaver, vice president of engineering for Copper Mountain Networks. "We've put the new IxAccess through its paces in our labs and are happy with how it has performed."

The new IxAccess feature set supports over 1 million user sessions in a single Ixia chassis with support for all key variants of the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPPoE, PPPoEo802.1q, PPPoEoA, PPPoA) and Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP, L2TPoA) access protocols. These capabilities provide for testing of broadband aggregation devices such as L2TP Access Concentrators (LACs) and L2TP Network Servers (LNSs) as well as other devices which incorporate these functions such as edge routers and DSL access multiplexers (DSLAMs).

"Ixia continues its commitment to deliver solutions that accelerate the deployment of revenue generating broadband services," said Ali Safari, product manager for Ixia. "This solution's ability to emulate real broadband networks, with high user scalability and real application traffic, ultimately provides our customers significant cost savings in validating their systems and bringing them to market more quickly."

In addition, Ixia has integrated its IxChariot(TM) application emulation solution with IxAccess, enabling the evaluation and characterization of large-scale value added services over broadband networks. IxChariot emulates real world application data without the need to install and maintain extensive client/server networks. Working together, the combined solution of IxChariot and IxAccess offers the ability to assess the behavior of over 100 different applications across thousands of sessions in a simulated broadband access environment.

The IxAccess test suite runs in conjunction with Ixia's Gigabit Ethernet and ATM test interface modules that support a per-port CPU running Linux. Each port implements a full PPP stack and can emulate thousands of PPPoX subscribers or a PPPoX server. IxAccess also offers full-featured LAC and LNS emulation for thousands of tunnels and sessions. The test environment can be used to validate the capacity, connection rates, and data performance of PPP/L2TP aggregation devices.
