BACKNANG, Germany -- Marconi Corporation plc (London: MONI and NASDAQ: MRCIY) today announced that its Impact SoftSwitch technology has been certified by Deutsche Telekom AG, T-Com, for access to the German ZZN7 (SS7 protocol) network. The certification, which is a prerequisite for any product deployed in the German national network, will allow the Impact SoftSwitch to be installed by any German operator.

To comply with T-Com, Impact SoftSwitch has passed a two-step test to prove its conformance and compatibility with the operator’s standards. As a result, Marconi’s Impact SoftSwitch XCD5000, which was tested for transport and access networks, has been certified and can be deployed by any German telecommunications operator for interoperability tests (IOP-NW) within its network.

“After long and thorough testing we have achieved the first two phases of certification for the Impact SoftSwitch in Germany,” said Dr. Stefan Kindt, managing director of Marconi Communications GmbH in Germany. “Even though most German telephone services are still run on traditional switching technology, IP-based services - especially Voice over IP - are rapidly gaining ground. Thanks to this accreditation, Marconi can now promote the Impact SoftSwitch XCD5000 as the most suitable platform for secure and profitable migration to this emerging new market.”

The Marconi Impact SoftSwitch allows operators to reduce their costs whilst enabling new services that increase revenue streams, giving them a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Operators are able to replace costly traditional voice-only networks with unified networks for existing and next-generation network services.
