PARIS -- France Telecom today announced two turnkey IP Telephony solutions for small sites within large corporate organizations and small-to-midsize businesses.

Dedicated to providing answers to the needs of businesses of all sizes, in France and around the world, France Telecom provides with this IP Telephony services strategy, its business customers with efficient support as their infrastructure develops and ensures optimum security.

Barbara Dalibard, Executive Vice President, Entreprise Communication Services, France Telecom, said:
“France Telecom is committed to supporting enterprises with communications solutions that are perfectly matched to their needs. We bring proven expertise in telephony and IP network services and we are very aware of the challenges businesses face and their expectations. This experience and our capacity to leverage innovation allow us to be the first in France to launch a managed IP Telephony service, to help our customers progressively migrate to IP services adapted to their size. It includes packaged solutions for small or mid-size businesses, as well as personalized solutions for large enterprises.”

For small corporate sites and small-to-midsize businesses:

The e-Telephony on Equant IP VPN Service, available as of June 1, 2004
For small corporate sites connected to Equant IP VPN in France and small-to-midsize businesses, France Telecom has created the e-Telephony on Equant IP VPN Service. This solution provides access to private telephone services without there being the need to invest in a PABX.

The telephone features are provided via an IP platform hosted on the France Telecom/Equant network. Interconnection with the public switched telephone network is provided by IP PSTN gateways.

With the e-Telephony on Equant IP VPN Service, voice and data communications transit on a single network. IP phones are connected to the company’s local area network. This means that customers only need to manage a single network infrastructure, reducing wiring, communications and network administration costs.

The e-Telephony on Equant IP VPN Service also introduces new multimedia features such as integrated messaging, call rerouting and simple, centralized network management by either the operator or a customer-designated administrator via a secure Web page. The administrator programs the telephone services required—call forwarding, international access, etc.—for each person and establishment, and manages passwords, directories and other features.

In a separate release:

PARIS -- Equant (NYSE: ENT) (Euronext Paris: EQU) has reported an 85 percent increase in the number of customer sites using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) from 700 to 1,300 over the last 12 months.

More than 130 multinational corporations – more than 10 percent of all Equant IP VPN customers – now benefit from the full scope of voice, video, contact center and convergence services on a private, secure network by using Equant’s VoIP solution, Equant Voice for IP VPN. This number shows growth of nearly 50 percent over the last 12 months and gives Equant one of the largest VoIP multinational customers bases in the industry.

This growth also reinforces the strategy announcement earlier this year in which Equant identified IP-based voice solutions as a major market opportunity.

Equant is implementing a series of programs to spur further acceleration in the adoption of IP-based voice and video solutions by multinational corporations. In parallel to these new initiatives from Equant, France Telecom is announcing today plug-and-play and customized end-to-end convergent services for the French corporate market. This full set of domestic and international IP-based voice solutions underlines the France Telecom Group’s clear objective to be a key player in this market.
