CHICAGO and MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced at SUPERCOMM 2005 the first customer deployment of its full suite of next-generation signaling, switching and applications products, which enable operators of all sizes to roll out feature-rich voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and IP Centrex services.

FCI Broadband, an Ontario, Canada-based competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC), will deploy the Tekelec EAGLE(R) 5 Signaling Application System (SAS), Tekelec 9000 Distributed Switching Solution (DSS) and Tekelec 6000 Application Server as the foundation for its new iTALK VoIP services for business and residential customers in the Greater Toronto Area.

Tekelec's expertise in next-generation signaling, switching and applications, as well as its demonstrated commitment - nearly 100 deployments - to regional CLECs, independent operating carriers (IOCs) and other small and medium-sized operators, were deciding factors in FCI Broadband's selection of Tekelec over several other equipment providers. Tekelec's market-leading application server and switching platform cost-effectively provide VoIP and IP Centrex services that are critical differentiators for these operators to compete.

"Tekelec provides the highest quality, integrated signaling and switching solutions which allow us to deliver VoIP services at a lower cost than our legacy equipment, while providing a complete solution that fully supports our transition to a next-generation network," said Nick Melatti, president and CEO of FCI Broadband. "The Tekelec application server enables us to customize these services, which differentiates our brand and gives us a competitive advantage."
