QUEBEC CITY, Canada -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF.SV) announced today the launch of the FTB-8510 Packet Blazer Ethernet test module for the recently introduced FTB-200 Compact Platform.

As Ethernet service deployments continue to gain momentum, service providers must thoroughly test their converged IP-based networks in order to ensure conformance to service-level agreements (SLAs). The combination of EXFO’s Packet Blazer Ethernet test module with the FTB-200 Compact Platform provides field technicians with powerful Ethernet testing capabilities in a lightweight and compact form factor. The Packet Blazer’s list of features includes RFC 2544 testing (a well-known Ethernet-based test methodology that includes such parameters as frame loss, throughput and latency), multiple-stream generation and analysis, Ethernet quality-of-service (QoS) testing and packet jitter (frame-delay variation). Packet-jitter measurement has become essential to characterize the capabilities of networks carrying delay-sensitive applications like voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Internet Protocol TV (IPTV).

This latest innovation delivers the industry’s first Ethernet tester with dual-platform capabilities, allowing the FTB-8510 Packet Blazer test module to be housed inside both the widely deployed FTB-400 Universal Test System (UTS) and lightweight FTB-200 Compact Platform.

“The addition of the Packet Blazer’s Ethernet testing capabilities to the FTB-200 Compact Platform provides a cost-effective yet comprehensive tool for the rapid field deployment and troubleshooting of Ethernet-based services,” said Benoit Fleury, EXFO's Vice-President of Protocol-Layer Product Management. “This cross-platform capability, combined with the recently launched FTB-8120/30 next-generation SONET/SDH test modules, demonstrates EXFO’s commitment to provide the most advanced telecom field-testing solutions. With the flexibility of integrating optical, telecom and datacom modules within the same compact platform, users now have a versatile test system that remains simple and effective.”

The FTB-8510 test module inside the FTB-200 Compact Platform will be showcased at Interop 2006, booth 2010, in Las Vegas, Nevada, from May 2-4, 2006. For more information about the Packet Blazer FTB-8510 Ethernet test module or the FTB-200 Compact Platform, please visit www.EXFO.com.
