WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- Optical components manufacturer Molecular OptoElectronics Corporation (MOEC) announced today the appointment of Thomas H. Wessel as its new vice president of Manufacturing. In this capacity, Wessel will oversee all facets of the company's manufacturing processes. Wessel joins MOEC from Lucent Technologies' Microelectronics Group (now known as Agere Systems, Inc.), where he mostly recently served as director of Optoelectronics Package Manufacturing and Engineering. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Laser Diode, Inc., where he managed the Materials Fabrication operation.

"The ability to produce components in large volumes at low cost will play a huge role in who leads the fiber optics industry," said Dr. Kevin R. Stewart, MOEC founder, president and CEO. "The competitive advantage gained through improved management of our manufacturing processes presents tremendous opportunities for MOEC, and in this respect, we gain an important strategic asset through Tom's appointment."
