STOCKHOLM -- Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today announces the market introduction of its SSR 8000 family of Smart Services Routers (SSR), a key component of Ericsson's 4th generation of IP networking launched earlier this year. The solution provides operators with a simple, smart and scalable solution for converged networks. As a consolidated platform for both fixed and mobile network applications, the SSR enables complete network convergence so subscribers can access services from any device or location.

When more and more different types of data-driven devices are connected to networks, operators will need to handle unprecedented amounts of traffic and be prepared to cope with an unparalleled diversity of applications and end-user devices. The 4th generation of IP networks must enable users to access the Internet anywhere at anytime, while delivering personalized services.

"Operators have been transforming their networks to IP for several years now, but requirements have grown, driving the need for a new round of equipment that can support new applications and revenue generation of fixed and mobile broadband segments, characterized by not only video traffic, but high call signaling volumes," stated Michael Howard, principal analyst, carrier and data center networks, at Infonetics Research. "The new Ericsson Smart Services Routers are designed to provide the scalability, resiliency, and subscriber/application support that carriers are seeking for their next generation networks."
