MUNICH, Germany and WESTFORD, Mass. -- Siemens Information and Communication Networks Group (ICN) and its affiliate Unisphere Networks, Inc., a provider of IP infrastructure products to enable broadband data and voice services, today announced that Deutsche Telekom has selected Siemens to deploy additional Unisphere Networks' ERX-1400 Edge Routers into its IP network. The ERX-1400 provides broadband access to the IP network and functions as a Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) for Deutsche Telekom's T-DSL product. These new routers continue to expand the largest broadband access technology deployment in Europe. Deutsche Telekom first purchased Unisphere's ERX-1400 routers in March 2001, marking the largest European order for broadband access technology. "With 40 percent of the total DSL lines in Europe, Deutsche Telekom is the leading provider of broadband DSL network connectivity in Europe. This places Deutsche Telekom in the top three providers in the global DSL market, second only to Korea Telecom by the end of 2001," said Ian Cox, analyst, Packet Networks & Services-Europe at RHK. The increased demand for broadband access throughout Germany has caused Deutsche Telekom to accelerate its deployment of Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router for delivering high-speed access over DSL and IP-based services to its private and business customers. The ASIC-based architecture of the ERX provides wire-speed performance of IP routing and next-generation broadband services, such as bandwidth-on-demand, access to streaming media and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), with Quality of Service (QoS).Unisphere Networks Inc.
