HICKORY, N.C. -- Corning Cable Systems, an industry-leading manufacturer of fiber optic communications network infrastructure solutions, announces the release of an innovative family of gel-free optical cables.
A LANscape® Pretium™ Solutions product, the gel-free cable designs are available in ALTOS®, SST-Ribbon™ and FREEDM® Cables. The product family represents a significant technological breakthrough in optical cable design by removing all gels from the cable and replacing them with specially engineered dry waterblocking tapes and yarns using field-provensuper-absorbent polymer technology.
Customers receive a variety of benefits from the gel-free designs, including reduced cable preparation time, which results in quicker network deployment for capturing revenues. Additional benefits include the removal of gel-cleaning solvents and other consumables from the workplace, reduced fusion splicer maintenance and elimination of the mess associated with gel removal. The cables have been successfully deployed in both aerial and underground applications using a variety of installation techniques with no special installation or cable preparation procedures required.
The patent-pending cable designs are fully compliant to the appropriate ICEA and Telcordia cable standards. The gel-free cables have also been subjected to a battery of additional testing beyond the typical requirements defined within prevailing industry standards to ensure the gel-free designs meet real-world demands.

HICKORY, N.C. -- Corning Cable Systems, an industry-leading manufacturer of fiber optic communications network infrastructure solutions, announces several enhancements to its Plug & Play™ Factory-Terminated Systems.
Corning Cable Systems Plug & Play Systems are pre-terminated fiber optic solutions optimized for data centers and high-density telecommunications systems. With its simple and modular plug-in installation, Plug & Play Systems can provide invaluable reductions in installation time, and thus installation cost, than traditional installation methods.
Featured in Corning Cable Systems LANscape® Pretium™ Solutions is a new, reusable clamshell pulling grip, offering unsurpassed individual connector protection and easier access to the factory-terminated connectors during installation. The grip includes a zippered sock that provides the ability to pull through conduit or in raised floors. With a new smaller plug, the pulling grip can be installed in smaller conduits and pathways. The plug integrates into the Pretium Connector Housings, completing the new solution for improved installation.
With a patented MTP® Connector polishing process, Corning Cable Systems is able to control the fiber protrusion and improve the end-face geometry in its Plug & Play Systems modules. This improved process results in a lowered insertion loss of 0.75 dB per module, enabling four modules in a channel. Now, Plug & Play Systems can be considered for applications that previously did not have an adequate loss budget.
