The Harmonic solution provides superior video quality and bandwidth utilization, numerous significant operational efficiencies, and a very powerful, scalable and flexible platform to support Changzhi’s new revenue-generating interactive services. Changzhi TV, located in Shanxi province, launched its new services in December 2009, and is an existing customer of Harmonic’s HFC access solutions.

“Harmonic’s advanced digital video solutions for both real-time and on-demand services offered excellent performance and value,” said Liang Zhengguo, Vice President of Changzhi TV. “With this reliable, high quality video delivery network now in place, we can offer additional interactive services to our subscribers, enhancing their TV viewing experience while generating incremental revenue.”

The comprehensive range of Harmonic technologies selected by Changzhi for this project include: ProView™ integrated receiver/decoders, Ion™ MPEG-2 multichannel encoders, ProStream™ 1000 stream processors with Mentor™ re-encoding technology, NSG™ 9000 edgeQAMs, StreamLiner® 3000 video servers, Armada® intelligent asset management and NMX Digital Service Manager™. Changzhi TV has also selected Star, a Harmonic partner, for its VOD and back-office solutions.

“As the popularity of services such as VOD, time-shifted TV, and network personal video recording continues to increase among viewers around the world, the ability to easily scale the video infrastructure to seamlessly support additional broadcast and on-demand services is becoming more critical,” said Raymond Tse, Vice President of Asia Pacific Sales at Harmonic Inc. “Offering a unique portfolio of digital video solutions spanning the complete video delivery chain, Harmonic is an industry leader in enabling service providers to deliver an ever-increasing variety of broadcast and personalized video services to the TV, PC, mobile and other consumer devices.”
