Cablevision announces availability of static IP for Optimum Online Boost customers
July 12, 2007
BETHPAGE, N.Y. -- Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE:CVC) today announced the availability of Static IP Internet addresses for its Optimum Online Boost premium tier Internet customers. Static IP is a critical component of Internet connectivity for many businesses, because it makes it possible to host applications and services that can be accessed from remote locations - like e-mail servers or e-commerce capabilities - through the same customer-specific IP address.
"Static IP is an important capability that significantly adds to the value and functionality of our business class Internet product," said Joseph Varello, Cablevision's vice president for digital voice and small business product marketing. "With blazing fast speeds offered to business customers at residential prices, and now with the additional benefit of Static IP, Optimum Online Boost is a compelling choice for a growing number of small and medium- sized business customers in our market."
Similar to a telephone number, a static IP address becomes a computer's permanent address on the Internet and allows it to locate and talk to other computers across the Web. Optimum Online Boost offers speeds of up to 30 megabits-per-second (Mbps) downstream and up to 5 Mbps upstream, and customers who add Static IP for an additional $10 per month can take advantage of a variety of benefits, including:
* Web Hosting Allows customers to run a local web server or e-commerce application. * E-Mail Allows customers to run a local e-mail server, for inbound or outbound messages. Reverse DNS configuration can be managed from the customer's Web portal. * Virtual Private Network (VPN) Allows customers to build a "private" network across the Internet and connect remote users to resources including file servers, network printers and more.
