Bezeq is upgrading its BRASs with Ericsson Redback gear
January 2, 2008
TEL AVIV -- Bezeq is currently upgrading its ADSL internet access systems (BRAS – Broadband Remote Access Server) with Ericsson Redback equipment, at a cost of approximately $2.5 million.
The upgrade will enable the use of advanced services such as IPTV (internet-based television), VOD (video on demand), VoB (internet-based telephony), and in the future faster surfing – customer packages of up to 50 mega.
The new equipment will enable the use of a number of services simultaneously without one service affecting the quality and availability of another. The advanced equipment will make it possible to set priorities for "delay-sensitive" services (real-time services) in order to enhance the user's surfing experience.
Bezeq will position about 20 systems around the country, thereby also improving the level of availability and the back-up possibilities of the ADSL services, in order to ensure that the surfing experience is continuous and constantly available.
The project also includes upgrading the IPVPN network – used by numerous business customers for remote access (from the home to the office) – by the assimilation of systems for differentiation of the remote access services for business customers and increasing the availability and continuity of the service.
Bezeq's VP Engineering and Planning, Yuval Kenan: "Bezeq has always adopted the most advanced communications technologies, and is doing so once again. The transition to NGBRAS (New Generation BRAS) will enable us to provide up-to-the-minute services in the best way possible. Bezeq customers receive full value for their money because the Company is constantly investing in improving and renovating its infrastructures, an investment that is the highest in the communications market in Israel."
