SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Atrica, the Carrier Ethernet Company™, today announced the A-2160, the industry’s first Outdoor Carrier Ethernet Edge Switch. Hardened for outdoor, uncontrolled environments, the A-2160 allows network operators to extend their points of presence (POPs) virtually to anywhere for the delivery of the most mission-critical Ethernet services. Designed to be strand-mounted or pole-mounted, with easy deployment and maintenance, the A-2160 reduces operations costs and time-to-market for wireless backhaul, Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), Fiber-to-the-Curb (FTTC) and Fiber-to-the-Business (FTTB) access network applications.

Building upon Atrica’s position as the first vendor to combine the numerous benefits of Ethernet technology with innovations in traffic engineering/management and optical switching, the A-2160 is the first Carrier Ethernet device with an environmentally hardened internal design and fully sealed waterproof metallic enclosure, along with carrier-class redundancy and serviceability.

Featuring a broad range of intelligent network services, including granular Quality of Service (QoS) and sub-50ms protection, the A-2160 enables service providers to rapidly provision secure Ethernet access with flexible Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

“Cox Business Services continues to experience significant growth in our Carrier Ethernet service offerings,” said Andrew Redman, a Senior Network Engineer at Cox. “We continue to seek products that enable speedy – and cost effective – deployments and we welcome the Atrica A-2160 to the marketplace.”

“Advancements such as this Outdoor Carrier Ethernet Edge Switch are helping service providers achieve a priority goal of extending carrier Ethernet to more locations,” said Stan Hubbard, Senior Analyst, Heavy Reading. “As demand for Carrier Ethernet services increases in diverse geographic areas, network operators need devices like this that give them deployment flexibility while ensuring service quality.”
