DULUTH, Ga. -- ARRIS (Nasdaq ARRS) today announced that it has reached agreement with its major customers on the timing and pricing to upgrade deployed Cadant C4 CMTS’ to be based upon the DOCSIS 2.0 specifications. The unique agreements are made possible by the introduction of the ARRIS 2Dx12U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Access Module (CAM) This module is 100% compatible with the installed base of Cadant C4 CMTS chassis and allows operators to upgrade to features based upon the DOCSIS 2.0 specifications simply by inserting the 2Dx12U CAM into the chassis and installing Release 4.0 software.

The high-density 2Dx12U CAM and supporting software provides for a simple field upgrade of the C4 units to DOCSIS 2.0 specifications while maintaining and expanding present specifications. Each CAM supports 2 downstream channels and 12 upstream channels with DOCSIS 2.0 features, the highest upstream to downstream ratio in the industry. In addition, the 2Dx12U CAM fully supports ARRIS FlexCAM™ technology that provides the most robust and flexible redundancy architecture of any CMTS. The Cadant C4 CMTS with the new 2Dx12U CAM will be submitted for DOCSIS 2.0 qualification in CableLabs’® CW 28, in the first quarter of 2004.

“The ARRIS Cadant C4 with the 2x12 CAM brings all the carrier class features and wire-speed throughput our customers expect from the C4 platform and adds industry-leading higher data rates enabled by DOCSIS 2.0 and our 12 receivers,” said ARRIS Broadband President Jim Lakin. “We have several agreements currently in place with new and existing customers to upgrade C4s and are actively selling the modules to cable customers worldwide. Our current customers remain committed to deploying Cadant C4s with the currently available DOCSIS 1.1 CAM and we are confident that DOCSIS 2.0 availability on the Cadant C4 will not be a factor in our sales going forward.”
