PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that it has signed a general frame agreement with Arcor, the second largest fixed network operator in Germany, for the delivery of DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) products over the next three years. With this agreement, Alcatel becomes one of Arcor's main DSL technology vendors. Alcatel’s leading DSL solutions will enable Arcor to offer advanced broadband services to their residential users and enterprise customers.

Under the terms of this contract Alcatel will be responsible for the turnkey project, including the delivery of DSL technology, integration into the existing operator network and support services. In a first step, Alcatel will install the leading Alcatel 7300 ASAM (Advanced Services Access Manager) access solution in more than 100 locations throughout Germany. As part of the project, Alcatel will also provide integration services for Arcor’s provisioning platform. Alcatel will ensure that DSL services on Alcatel’s equipment can be configured automatically through the Arcor’s provisioning platform.

The Alcatel 7300 ASAM offers a large number of options for future service expansion. In addition to basic high-speed Internet access, the Alcatel 7300 ASAM enables operators to offer a range of integrated data, voice and video services such as streaming video, music download, interactive gaming and broadband communication services. The 7300 ASAM also enables an extension of the operator’s service reach to less dense and remote rural areas.

Arcor CTO Hartmut Kremling commented: "We have already launched our first promotion campaign and are expecting this project to be extremely successful in light of the great potential for DSL in the German market. We value Alcatel as a reliable partner as we expand broadband across Germany."

"Once a solid DSL base is in place, Arcor will be in a position to offer their customers a wealth of new broadband services. We will fully support Arcor in realizing this communication solution to meet their customers’ growing demand for broadband services," said Michel Rahier, chief operating officer of Alcatel’s fixed communications activities.
