Alloptic Gets CEO, Opens Lab

Advanced Technology Lab will strengthen links to UC Davis

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Alloptic Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-speed fiber optic solutions for the local access network, today announced the appointment of Thomas L. Engdahl as its new President and CEO. Alloptic also announced that it has created an advanced technology lab that will focus on leading-edge solutions and future technologies.

A visionary in the telecommunications and cable industry, Mr. Engdahl has founded six companies and brings more than twenty years of technical and managerial expertise to Alloptic. Most recently he was President and CEO of Kasenna, a developer of rich media software infrastructure for broadband Internet media businesses. Prior to that, Mr. Engdahl served as President, CEO, and founder of VNI, an Atlanta-based transport video media company. In 1994, Mr. Engdahl founded and was President of Digital Video, a manufacturer of video file server systems. In 1987, he founded Applied Digital Access, a leader in telecommunications network test and management products. In addition, Mr. Engdahl has held many key positions at companies such as M/A-Com, Northern Telecom, DSC Communications, and Pacific Bell. He holds nine patents for telecommunications and video-cable products and has been active in setting standards in the telecom industry since 1984. Mr. Engdahl holds a BSEE from the University of California at Los Angeles.
