MINNEAPOLIS -- Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) market leader Optical Solutions Inc. today announced it has been selected by All West Communications of Kamas, Utah, to overbuild several new subdivisions in a mountainous area six miles east of Park City.

All West, an award-winning service provider with 7,300 access lines in Utah and Wyoming, jumped on the digital bandwagon early on by building an extensive fiber backbone and investing in a digital video head-end to deliver digital television and video-on-demand service over its copper phone lines. Now, the progressive carrier will offer customers direct-fiber digital television and “as much high-speed bandwidth as they want,|” according to All West Chief Operating Officer Tony DiStefano.

All West will deploy Optical Solutions FiberPath 500 GPON, the FTTP industry’s first triple-play equipment and networking solution with gigabit bandwidth capacity. FiberPath 500 recognizes progression from ATM to IPnetwork transport and supports seamless migration to IPTV and other IP-based services such as VoIP.

“FiberPath 500 helps us leverage our digital assets, and it’s proven in the field,” DiStefano said.

Since the start of its FTTP deployment last fall, All West has gone to extreme lengths to build its network – DiStefano’s crew installed fiber cable inside a three-mile-long mine tunnel, and up a 1,700-foot verticalshaft. All West’s initial competitive build-out targets nearly 2,500 “underserved” homeowners in Deer Valley, Promontory and Tuhaye. The carrier plans to offer a bundled service offering of voice, video and data services, with convenient, consolidated billing and support from a local customer interaction center.

“All West has created a communications and entertainment infrastructure that is vastly superior to cable TV or satellite. It’s in a different league,” said Mike Dagenais, president and CEO of Optical Solutions Inc. “FiberPath integrates with All West’s digital equipment to provide enhanced video and data performance and nearly limitless bandwidth capacity for new and future applications.”
