Wins contract with Chunghwa Telecom for convergent video services, Maxis for WiMax trial in Malaysia, and Triple T Broadband for triple-play

PARIS -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) announced today that Chunghwa Telecom, a leading telecommunications service provider in Taiwan, has selected its IMS-compliant solution for real-time, high-quality video telephony and video conferencing services between fixed broadband networks and 3G mobile networks. The service is commercially available to CHT subscribers.
This new capability, which has been successfully tested and implemented by Alcatel-Lucent on the operator’s network, will allow more than three million of CHT’s ADSL subscribers to make high quality video calls between the operator’s fixed and mobile broadband networks.
“With the use of such an innovative fixed to mobile convergent solution, leveraging Alcatel-Lucent’s strong video expertise, our ADSL subscribers can now enjoy the excitement and practical benefits of both seeing and talking to 3G subscribers any time, any place. We believe the new service will accelerate the adoption of 3G services as well as the number of our 3G subscribers, thanks to the millions of PCs already deployed in Taiwan,” said Shaio-Tung Chang, President of CHT’s Mobile Business Group.

PARIS and KUALA LUMPUR -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and Maxis Communications Berhad (“Maxis”), the leading mobile operator in Malaysia, today announced that they have signed an agreement to conduct Malaysia’s first field trial of the Universal 802.16e –2005 WiMAX solution.
This field trial is an important step towards offering commercial services and satisfying growing demand for wireless broadband access, especially in residential areas in Malaysia. In order to support the start of the field trial that will take place later this year, Alcatel-Lucent will ship its 9100 WiMAX equipment in the next few weeks. In preparation for the field trial, Maxis undertook and successfully completed Malaysia's first lab test of 802.16e WiMAX using WiMAX 2.5 GHz spectrum at the Alcatel-Lucent Malaysia Regional Support Centre in November 2006.
Under the terms of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its Alcatel-Lucent 9100 WiMAX end-to-end radio solution (2.5 GHz), including base stations, Wireless Access Controller, Operation and Maintenance Center as well as supply indoor customer premises equipment (CPE), mobile terminals and integration services. Alcatel-Lucent will also provide design, planning, and provisioning support for the solution to meet Maxis’ trial requirements.
Maxis’ Head of Products and New Businesses Dr. Nikolai Dobberstein said: “Alcatel-Lucent is a leader in wireless WiMAX technology and Maxis is particularly impressed with the effective time to market strategy that Alcatel-Lucent has adopted. It has a clear product roadmap hence the commercial availability of Universal WIMAX IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard equipment for initial network deployments.”

PARIS -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that Triple T Broadband, a wholly owned telecom subsidiary of TT&T Public Company Limited, and Jasmine Telecom Systems PCL, the project system integrator, have selected Alcatel-Lucent’s broadband access infrastructure to roll out triple play services in Bangkok and provinces in Thailand. The operator is targeting 300,000 broadband subscribers by the end of 2006, and a cumulative total of 500,000 by the end of 2007.
Alcatel-Lucent previously completed the installation of a core IP/MPLS network and WDM equipment to serve Triple T Broadband’s nationwide backbone of triple play services and the gateway of interconnections from international and domestic Internet Service Providers and other telecommunications service providers.
By linking the access network to its core IP/MPLS network and WDM equipment, Triple T Broadband now has a full end-to-end triple play network from Alcatel-Lucent, and subscribers enjoy a seamless user-experience when using voice, rich multimedia and Internet services simultaneously.
Under the terms of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent has supplied, installed and implemented its 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM), the industry's most deployed IP access platform for triple play, managed by the 5523 ADSL Work Station, in Chiangmai and Chonburi provinces.
