BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Acme Packet®, the leader in session border control solutions, today expanded its lawful intercept/CALEA solution for its Net-NetÒ family of session border controllers (SBC). The expanded capabilities include both new product enhancements and new partnerships with Pen-link, Pine Digital Security and Subsentio. These capabilities enable service providers to more flexibly meet compliance obligations for the various lawful intercept (LI) mandates and regulations around the world. This announcement builds upon Acme Packet’s market leading capabilities supporting its role as an intercept access point (IAP) for real-time interactive IP communications such as VoIP (see Acme Packet Announces Broad Lawful Intercept/CALEA Support, May 25, 2005). This role is also supported by previously announced partnerships with leading product vendors, SS8 and Verint, and trusted third-party service providers, NeuStar and VeriSign.

Government regulators around the world are expanding lawful intercept laws to include next generation communications based on IP technology, including VoIP. For example, on September 23, 2005 the US FCC ruled that CALEA compliance is required for broadband and interconnected VoIP services. Providers of these types of services were given eighteen months to come into compliance with CALEA provisions.

“The urgency of LI compliance is real as more voice traffic and communications overall migrates to IP networks,” commented Seamus Hourihan, Vice President Marketing and Product Management at Acme Packet. “According to market research firm InStat, 16 million consumers worldwide used VoIP technology by the end of 2005 and project that figure will grow to 55 million by 2009. In order to enable this projected subscriber adoption, service providers must ensure that their services will comply with country-specific lawful intercept regulations. Acme Packet and our partners have and will continue to enhance our capabilities to satisfy LI requirements the world over.”
