Nokia's hiring of Intel's Justin Hotard to be its new CEO has set tongues wagging again about a mobile exit, but it would look counterintuitive and inadvisable.
ZTE expands the capacity of CDMA base station in Fujian Province, launches the first 7-carrier and 3-sector CDMA base station
April 13, 2004
SHENZHEN, China -- Recently, ZTE has expanded the capacity of CDMA base station in Luteng county of Quanzhou, Fujian Province, and successfully launched the first 7-carrier and 3-sector CDMA base station in the world. The capacity of the base station is up to 40,000 lines, being the "No. 1 Base Station in the World". Such expansion means that 10M bandwidth of CDMA 800M band allocated to China Unicom has been fully utilized. This successful expansion enables ZTE to rank the first telecommunication equipment supplier that has successfully launched CDMA 7-carrier and 3-sector base station in the world.
Normally, the capacity expansion of CDMA base station employs a relatively simple cell splitting technology. However, this is not the case in Luteng County, where there is no suitable high land for the base station construction due to certain geographical restrictions, such as the mountainous surroundings. So the capacity expansion has to turn to the carrier frequency spreading technology. ZTE had conducted the capacity expansion for that base station twice; in November 2003, ZTE launched the first 4-carrier and 3-sector CDMA base station in China, with the capacity of up to 25,000 lines, and the station was reputed as "No. 1 Base Station in the World". In this expansion, ZTE's R&D staff solved numerous difficulties in the shortest period and finally put forward the 7-carrier and 3-sector base station solution to meet the requirements of China Unicom. After its launch, the base station achieved the expected load-sharing effect, effectively enhancing the system capacity and supporting the further development of services in that region.
As the top Chinese CDMA brand, ZTE's CDMA communication system and value-added service solutions has been widely applied at home and aboard. In bidding for China Unicom's Phase III CDMA construction in 2003, ZTE won the project to deploy more than 3 million lines of its CDMA equipment in over 15 provincial companies of China Unicom. By the end of 2003, ZTE has more than 12 million lines of its CDMA equipment widely deployed in over 30 countries and has become the biggest Chinese CDMA equipment supplier.
