RICHARDSON, Texas -- White Rock Networks, a provider of next-generation optical transport systems for metro environments, introduces the VLX1010(TM) Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) Terminal/OADM for metropolitan networks. The VLX1010 provides an eight-fold increase in the traffic-carrying capacity of a single fiber at substantially less cost than typical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology. The VLX1010, only one rack-unit high, allows eight fibers worth of transport capacity to be transported over a single fiber. If a carrier's traffic over fiber will eventually exceed this gain, the VLX1010 may be configured to reserve a DWDM upgrade port enabling the carrier to deploy a very-low-cost solution today, and to migrate to more costly and higher-density DWDM equipment later. "The VLX1010 fulfills the carriers' need to make better use of their installed fiber infrastructure at an ultra-low cost with immediate payback," said Lonnie Martin, Founder and CEO of White Rock Networks. "The perfect solution for a carrier in either a 'fiber-rich' situation or in fiber-poor areas is to have access to a small, easy-to-install solution that will let them easily and quickly add another wavelength on their existing fiber ... and at an ultra-low cost. The VLX1010 fulfills that need." White Rock Networks will introduce the VLX1010 at SUPERCOMM 2002 (Booth #25036) held at the World Congress Center in Atlanta, June 4-6.
