BERWYN, Pa. -- TruePosition, a leading provider of location-based technologies and solutions, today announced a three-year agreement to deploy its high accuracy wireless location solution to Kansas-based mobile operator, WestLink Communications.

The deal will enable WestLink Communications to meet the Federal Communications Commission’s requirement for all US operators to be able to pinpoint the exact location of their subscribers in the event of an emergency ‘911’ call, reducing emergency service response times and helping to save lives.

This is the latest in a series of successes for TruePosition, which is already rolling out its U-TDOA (Uplink Time Difference of Arrival) technology for two of the three largest GSM operators in the US. Of three new ‘E-911’, or Enhanced 911, contracts awarded in the past year, TruePosition has won all of them: Iowa-based i wireless, Colorado-based Viaero Wireless, and now WestLink Communications. This makes TruePosition the single biggest provider of high accuracy wireless location in the world

The contract is further testimony to the power of TruePosition’s solution to meet the needs of national, regional and rural wireless carriers across the US and internationally. Since U-TDOA is network-based, unlike satellite-driven GPS solutions, it allows mobile operators to deliver services to 100% of its user base from day one – without the need for subscribers to replace or modify their existing handsets in any way. It also avoids the obstruction issues of ‘line-of-sight’ satellite technologies, providing consistent levels of accuracy and reliability even in in-door or dense urban environments.

Deployment of TruePosition’s solution throughout WestLink’s GSM network is scheduled to begin in early 2005. WestLink’s wireless footprint covers more than 5,000 square miles in their predominantly rural market. Location enabling such a network for both the purposes of consumer safety and for Location Based Service, presented the carrier with significant challenges, but also a strategic growth asset.

“WestLink is deeply committed to the safety of our customers and the ongoing improvement of our network. And, we continuously seek creative ways to grow our revenue streams and add value to our subscriber base,” said Bill Hayden, Director of WestLink’s Wireless Operations. “This year, TruePosition has clearly emerged as the leading vendor for E-911 Phase II solutions and we are delighted to be working with them to deliver a much-needed service to our customers.”

"TruePosition understands the critical nature of satisfying the E-911 Phase II requirements and Location Based Services needs of the wireless operators,” stated Chris Polito, TruePosition's Vice President of Sales. “We have deployed our Finder wireless location system in most of the major markets in the United States and bring the same level of commitment and benefits to the rural operator community. This solution, which is optimised to address the unique requirements of rural markets such as those covered by WestLink, is a testament to our commitment to all market segments, regardless of geography or subscriber density. TruePosition’s system will surely help WestLink in meeting its regulatory obligations and also with its pursuit of new sources of income. We are thrilled to add WestLink to our growing list of carrier customers.”
