AirWave and Juniper have signed Wendy's to provide a comprehensive, cost-effective wireless network security solution
November 7, 2005
SAN MATEO, Calif. -- AirWave Wireless, a leader in Wi-Fi security and management, and Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), today announced that the two companies have entered into an alliance to provide a comprehensive, cost-effective wireless network security solution for the retail vertical market. The combined solution includes the AirWave Management Platform(tm) (AMP) software that gives administrators a single point of intelligent control to monitor, analyze, and configure a wireless network infrastructure and Juniper Networks' NetScreen-5GT Wireless FW/VPN security appliance. The two companies have already signed their first customer, Wendy's, one of the leading quick-service hamburger restaurant chains in the world, with more than 6,600 restaurants in North America and international markets.
"At Wendy's, our customers are our number one priority. By implementing Wi-Fi connectivity in our stores, our customers will ultimately benefit by having faster, more accurate service," said Phil Newlon, director of Wendy's Store Technology Group. "Juniper and AirWave are critical in building our national Wi-Fi system because they are providing us with the tools we need to ensure that our network is cost-effective, while remaining completely safe and secure. Our multi-unit managers can feel confident in the network, not having to worry about Wi-Fi hacking problems."
Wendy's turned to Juniper Networks and AirWave Wireless because it needed a solution that would enable them to properly secure the Wi-Fi network installed in their corporate-owned retail locations, while keeping the costs at a minimum. Wendy's is solving this issue by implementing in each of its retail locations a Juniper Networks NetScreen-5GT Wireless security appliance that includes Stateful and Deep Inspection Firewall (FW), IPSec VPN and antivirus capabilities to detect and remove malicious content - ensuring advanced threat control for Wendy's networks. In addition, the NetScreen-5GT Wireless supports up to four wireless security zones, each with their own unique SSID and security rules, to enable Wendy's to provision different levels of security for different groups of users.
Wendy's is using AirWave's AMP software at its Dublin, Ohio headquarters to centrally monitor and manage its wireless networks, augmenting the Juniper device management for the NetScreen-5GT Wireless FW/VPNs. Wendy's also uses the vendor-agnostic AMP software internally to manage Wi-Fi hardware in its corporate headquarters, allowing Wendy's to have one wireless management solution for its remote and campus environments.
"One of the key 'Wi-Fi Network' obstacles faced by retailers today is finding solutions that will enable them to cut down on the wasted time and enormous costs of having to send IT staff to each of the physical retail locations when their networks are experiencing problems," said Gary Hegna, CEO of AirWave. "Our work with Wendy's serves as a great example of how retailers can significantly cut down on these costs by being able to monitor, control and operate an entire national Wi-Fi network through a single web-based console in their headquarters."
