LONDON -- VoxSurf Ltd, the leading independent provider of multichannel voicemail and messaging solutions based on voice-controlled features, Open Standards and Internet Protocol (IP), today announced it has secured US$3.5m second round funding and appointed Mehran Mirahmadi as chief executive officer.

"With the current generation of voicemail and messaging platforms reaching the end of their operational life, the market for IP-based alternatives is set to explode," said Maurice Roche General Partner with Delta Partners, which led the funding with co-investment from BancBoston Capital (a subsidiary of FleetBoston Financial Corporation) and Aberdeen Murray Johnstone Private Equity. "VoxSurf's core messaging platform, VxOneTM is ideally positioned to capture a significant portion of both the carrier voicemail replacement market and the advanced messaging needs of mobile operators."

All investors participated in the company's first round of funding in 2000.

Mr Roche pointed to VoxSurf's recent success in the US as evidence of its potential; details will be announced at the ITU Telecom World 2003 exhibition.

To capitalise on this deal - the first of its kind with a major CLEC (competitive local exchange carrier) in the US - VoxSurf's second round of funding will be used to boost its sales and marketing capacity. Leading the expansion drive is new CEO Mehran Mirahmadi, whose appointment was also announced today. Mehran joins VoxSurf from Logica CMG where he led the sales team of their Mobile Networks division.

"I have joined VoxSurf at an opportune time, with a significant deal in the bag and more to come," said Mr Mirahmadi. "My intention now is to grow VoxSurf's market share by taking on the incumbents in the voicemail and messaging markets."

VoxSurf co-founder Andy Munarriz commented: "I am very pleased that Mehran has joined as CEO and will lead VoxSurf in our assault on the market for Next Generation Voicemail and advanced messaging. With more than 20 years' experience in the telecommunications market and his history of success with start-ups such as Aldiscon and Apion, I believe he will ensure VoxSurf continues to build on its recent success."
