Vodafone Portugal's total revenue increases by 8.6% in the first half of 2007

LISBON, Portugal -- Vodafone Portugal total revenue amounted to 739 million euros in the first half (April to September) of 2007, an increase of 8.6% on the same period last year.

Vodafone Portugal’s service revenues were 667 million euros in the six months ended on 30 September 2007, an increase of 6.4% on the previous year. This made Vodafone by far the fastest growing operator in the Portuguese mobile market, in which growth generally did not exceed 3.8% in the same period.

In the same period, Vodafone Portugal’s operating cash flow (EBITDA) and operating profit grew significantly, by 11.6% and 15.1% respectively compared with the previous year, to 274 and 180 million euros in the first six months (April to September) of 2007.

Vodafone Portugal won 339 thousand new customers in the first nine months (January to September) of 2007, retaining its position as the operator that has attracted the most mobile services customers in the last three and a half years. At 30 September 2007, Vodafone had a customer base of 4.957 million registered customers in Portugal, a number which now tops 5 million.

As in previous years, Vodafone once again registered gains in market share in Portugal in the first nine months of 2007. Since 2003, its market share of service revenues has increased by 6.1 percentage points to 40.1% and its market share of customers has risen by 4.5 percentage points to 36.1%.

The Vodafone Group yesterday announced an increase in its worldwide customer base to 241.5 million customers (proportional) and total turnover and adjusted operating profit of 17.0 and 5.2 billion pounds sterling (approximately 24.4 and 7.5 billion euros) respectively in the six months ended on 30 September 2007. Vodafone Group currently has equity interests in 25 countries across five continents and a further 40 partner networks worldwide, and has a stock market capitalisation of around 148 billion euros.
