CUPERTINO, Calif. -- In a move to allow mobile healthcare providers to receive patient bedside notifications immediately, Vocera Communications Inc., a wireless voice communications company, has added the Vocera Nurse Call Integration Module to its instant, hands-free, voice-controlled communications system.

The Vocera Communications System enables mobile workers within buildings or campuses to instantly connect with one another using simple voice commands. Combining the leading-edge technologies of Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi), Voice over IP (VoIP), and speech recognition, the system allows users to communicate, make decisions, and act quickly anytime, anywhere within the 802.11b-networked facility. The Vocera system consists of the Vocera System Software and Vocera Communications Badges. The badge, weighing less than 2 ounces, can be clipped to a shirt pocket or collar, or worn on a lanyard, enabling instant, hands-free voice communication.

“Vocera’s healthcare customers have the most critical need for instant communication, specifically between nurses and patients,” said Julie Shimer, CEO of Vocera Communications. “With the Vocera Nurse Call Integration Module, nurse-patient communications can be expedited, making the nursing unit operations more efficient, leading to an improved patient experience.”
