CAMARILLO, Calif. -- Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:VTSS) today announced a new family of Forward Error Correction (FEC) devices providing standards-based and high-gain forward error correction solutions that are ideal for metro, long-haul, and ultra long-haul optical transport and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) equipment manufacturers. The VSC9273, VSC9271, and VSC9211 offer transparent error detection and correction techniques that help maintain signal integrity for transmission in environments with increased optical attenuation, dispersion, and noise."Vitesse's FEC components increase the tolerable bit error rate in optical networks, resulting in longer transmission distances and tighter wavelength spacing in DWDM systems. This aids in increasing the overall bandwidth while reducing the necessity of optical amplifiers or regenerators on a link, thus dramatically improving the economics of optical communications," stated Simon Keeton, product line manager of Vitesse's OTN devices.
