Transmode Enhances WDM Platform
New Gigabit Ethernet solution from Transmode doubles traffic capacity and lowers operational cost
June 6, 2005
CHICAGO -- Transmode today introduced a new plug-in unit for its TM-Series (formerly Mentis) platform, the Double Dual Gigabit Ethernet Transponder. This Small Form-factor Pluggable based card allows the deployment of small-footprint, fully-integrated low-cost Metro WDM nodes enabling highly economical backhaul of Gigabit Ethernet traffic generated by DSL and Cable-based broadband access systems. The card supports four Gigabit Ethernet signals electrically multiplexed into two wavelengths, with optional 1+1 protection on each wavelength.
The Double Dual GbE Transponder can be installed in any TM-Series chassis, including the 1 RU (Rack Unit) TM-101 subrack, creating a compact fully integrated WDM node with add/drop optical filters, multiple GigE client signals, protection and in band management capabilities. With a selling price of well under $10,000, this solution is optimized to address the fast growing IP-traffic backhaul market.
"The card is ideally suited for "Triple-play" applications, where operators need high bandwidth to transfer TV, telephony and Internet services over an IP network, at very low cost. The response from our customers regarding this unit is very positive and we expect it to become a high volume product within our portfolio", said Magnus Öberg, Transmode's Chief Technology Officer.
