Texas Instruments has joined the WiMedia Alliance as a promoter member, and agrees to serve on the board of directors

DALLAS -- Texas Instruments, Inc. (TI) (NYSE:TXN) announced today that it has joined the WiMedia Alliance as a Promoter Member and will serve on the organization's Board of Directors.

The WiMedia Alliance, one of the industry's leading consortia for Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology, develops specifications and certification programs that define interoperability and use models, as well as fairness policies for UWB-based wireless networking.

"TI is pleased to join WiMedia and its efforts to ensure interoperability among UWB products - a key issue in ensuring rapid deployment of this technology," said Yoram Solomon, general manager, Consumer Networking Business Unit, TI. "We believe consumers will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this type of collaboration."
