MELBOURNE, Australia -- Telstra CEO, Ziggy Switkowski, today announced changes to Telstra's organisational structure, building upon changes initiated late last year, to continue aligning the company's structure with customer needs and its corporate strategy.
Dr Switkowski said the earlier changes had driven improved performance in the company and the changes announced today would build on this improvement. The changes also created opportunities to continue the development of Telstra senior executives by providing them with new responsibilities and experience in the business.
Mr Ted Pretty has been appointed Group Managing Director (GMD) of a new group called Telstra Technology, Innovation and Products, which brings together Telstra Technology with business unit product development areas, network technologies, IT systems and the highly respected Telstra Research Laboratories. Mr Pretty also joins the board of TelstraClear and will join the board of REACH Ltd.
Dr Switkowski said the new group would have a very strong commercial focus with the objectives of:
stimulating and commercialising innovation from Telstra's research and development programs;
providing a stream of appealing new products and services to contribute to profitable organic revenue growth;
optimising Telstra's relationships with its technology providers and developing relevant partnering models;
lowering the total cost of doing business for customer facing units;
engineering Telstra's physical networks to world class levels of service and reliability;
leading the company's technology, network and systems strategy;
accelerating the company's information and knowledge process improvements; and
delivering productivity gains in Telstra's IT platforms.
Mr Doug Campbell, who has successfully led both Telstra Technology and Telstra CountryWide during 2003, returns to heading the expanded TCW group whose customer base and revenue accountability was doubled in the changes made earlier this year.
Mr David Moffatt, Chief Financial Officer and GMD, Finance and Administration, is appointed GMD, Telstra Consumer and Marketing. Mr Moffatt is also appointed President, International. In this role, he becomes chairman of Telstra's Hong Kong wireless company, CSL, while remaining on the board of REACH Ltd.
Mr John Stanhope, currently Director of Finance, is appointed Chief Financial Officer and GMD, Finance and Administration.
Mr John Allerton, currently Director, Acquisitions Investments and Strategic Development, is appointed Managing Director, Corporate Development, with responsibility for Investor Relations, Mergers and Acquisitions, Business Development and Corporate Strategy. He will join the leadership team of GMDs in reporting to the CEO.
All appointments are effective from October 1, 2003.
