ISLANDIA, N.Y. and MILAN -- Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA - News) today announced that Tele Sistemi Ferroviari (TSF), Italy's leading provider of IT services for the transport/logistics market, has partnered with CA Technology Services and selected CA's eTrust Identity and Access Management software to revamp its enterprise IT security architecture. As a result, TSF is significantly reducing its exposure to risk and ensuring its ability to maintain the business continuity essential to Italy's economic infrastructure.

A member of the Telecom Italia-Finsiel Group, TSF provides information and communications technology services for the transport and logistics sector -- including the Ferrovie dello Stato (Italian State Railways), which holds a 39 percent stake in TSF. TSF manages and supports an extensive distributed environment that includes more than 1000 routers, a 2828 MIPS mainframe infrastructure backed by more than 15 TB of storage, and a diverse range of server and desktop systems.

To ensure continuous availability of its IT environment, TSF undertook an extensive technological and organizational review of its security strategy. After carefully reviewing proposals from eight IT companies, TSF chose CA based on the quality of the submission, and its earlier experiences with CA software and services.

Over several months, CA Technology Services worked alongside TSF experts to assess current security measures, processes and vulnerabilities using guidelines from BS 7799 (ISO17799), an information security management system standard. The companies developed a maturity model, based on industry best practices, for TSF's evolving security architecture and a blueprint for bringing that model to fruition.

"CA brought a powerful, proven methodology to this engagement," said Michele Martini, TSF information systems operations and planning director. "We worked side-by-side every day to ensure that our new security architecture would address our existing vulnerabilities in the most effective and resource-efficient manner."
